Frequently asked questions
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we accept Aetna PPO, Aetna Student Health, Anthem Blue Cross, Cigna and OPTUM/UHC/UBH.
How will I get the details of my insurance before I start therapy?
Your therapist will collect your insurance information on the initial call with you. They will then contact your insurance company to get the details of your health plan. At intake, your therapist will review your health benefits with you and address any questions you have at that time. Our goal is that clients are fully aware of their coverage at the commencement of therapy.
Can I come in for sessions every other week?
We do not conduct sessions every other week. We believe sessions are most beneficial on a weekly basis. Through the course of therapy you may feel that you need to meet less frequently. This is an indication that you have made progress and perhaps time to work with your therapist toward and an end date.
How long is therapy session?
The standard psychotherapy session is 45 minutes. Sessions can be extended based on medical necessity. Clients can also participate in multiple sessions a week if their insurance plan permits.
I don’t have insurance; how much is out of pocket fee?
Out of pocket fee is $150 per session. Our Therapists also work a sliding scale. Please discuss this with your therapist if you are interested.
Where are you located? Is parking free?
We are located in the Petroleum Building at 714 West Olympic Blvd. Fig Tree occupies three suites on the seventh floor. Please verify with your therapist about what suite you will be meeting in prior to your initial appointment.
You may park in the lot behind the building (entrance on Flower St.) Please tell the parking attendant that you are here for an appointment with Fig Tree and you will be charged $5.00 instead of $10.00. All patrons visiting the Center after 5pm are permitted to park underneath the building, the $5.00 parking fee still applies.
What if I go on vacation or am out of town, can I continue therapy?
Your therapist will hold your appointment time for two weeks if you are going to be away. If you are going to be gone longer than two weeks, your therapist will have to open your appointment time. Your therapist will work to schedule you if you are interested in returning. You have the option to do phone and or video sessions during your time away. This option will support your continued care and hold your appointment time while you are away.
Can I come in to therapy the same day I call to schedule an appointment?
Unfortunately, no. Your therapist will need to gather your insurance information and verify your benefits prior to your initial visit. We typically need at least 24 hours to do this. Sessions at Fig Tree are by appointment only.
If there is no availability during my preferred day and time, can I be put on a waitlist?
We do not have a waitlist. You may contact us weekly, as space does open regularly.
Fig Tree Center is currently fully booked, can you refer or recommend me to other therapy centers?
If you have insurance, we recommend you contact your insurance provider directly for a list of practitioners in your area.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 24 hour concellation policy. You will not be charged if you give us 24 hours notice. If you cancel within 24 hours or do not show for your appointment you will be charged the contracted rate if you are utilizing insurance, which is the copay and the amount your insurance reimburses for the session. If you are a private pay client, you will be charged the agreed upon fee.
How do I know when my appointment is confirmed?
You will be contacted by your therapist directly to confirm your appointment. Our intake coordinator may tell you that a therapist has a day and time that fits your schedule, however, this is not a confirmation that you have an appointment. Your appointment is officially confirmed after you speak with your therapist over the phone and they confirm the day and time you are scheduled.
When I call the appointment line, why does it go to directly to voicemail? Why is there no live person that answers?
We do not have a live operator on our appointment line. We have referral coordinators who checks the referral line multiple times daily. After they receive your voicemail they will follow up with you directly and assist you in securing an appointment.
You can also email us through the website utilizing our appointment form to receive an appointment. Our referral coordinator will then contact you to assist with scheduling.
How do I know the therapist is the right fit for me? What if the therapist is not the right fit?
It is important that clients feel comfortable with the therapist they are working with. If you are not feeling comfortable, we recommend that you address your feelings with your therapist. If you cannot work through these feelings, then your therapist will work with you in finding an appointment with a different clinician within the group.
We believe that the client therapist relationship is the most important ingredient to successful therapy. We will do everything we can to insure that you are working with someone you feel comfortable with.
Do you have psychiatrists? Can you prescribe medication?
We do not have a psychiatrist and do not prescribe medications. We can either provide you with a referral to a doctor or if you would like to utilize insurance for a med evaluation, we will direct you to your insurance where you can get a list of in-network practitioners in your area.
Do you accept EAP?
We do accept EAP, however, this is contingent on whether the therapist you are working with is a contracted EAP provider associated with your health plan.
